Wow! Did this month fly by or what? For the month of October, we collected socks for our community service project 'Socktober'. We have a huge pile of socks from people donating. If students bring in a pair of socks they are allowed to wear silly socks to school on Halloween, Friday, October 30th. We are excited for silly sock day!! Students have been working hard on researching their Saint. We will being presenting them by the end of this week. If we don't finish we will finish presenting them next week. Students will have a chance to ask questions about each Saint. In social Studies our class has been studying the European Explorers. Students began researching an explorer of their choice. They are working on creating an informational poster to teach the class. These will be finished by next week. Finally, in science we are studying how temperature can affect seed growth. Students were given seeds and we are studying them right now. We have some seeds in the refrigerator and some in our classroom. We will be studying this for the next week. 10-19-20 In religion, everyone has been working so hard on researching their Saint. Most students are finished with their research and began their PowerPoints. We are hoping to present them to the class soon!! We just finished learning about how a chart can help us classify living things. Students studied different leaves and used a chart to help classify them. 10-12-20 In math we have been studying adding, subtracting, estimating and multiplying decimals. They have been doing a great job with this topic. Students are constantly being reminded to practice their facts at home. They are encouraged to use Xtra Math or Moby Max. Students will have their Chapter 2 Test in a little over one week. During religion each student chose a Saint they would like to learn more about. Students began using computers and books to research their Saint. Once students are finished finding information and filling out their graphic organizer they will create a PowerPoint on Google Slides. Once they are finished they will present them to the class the week of All Saint's Day! We are looking forward to learning more about Saints. Finally in reading we finished up our novel study Maniac Magee. Students were given their test today and they were sent home. Next week, we will watch the movie and then write a compare and contrast paper of the book and movie. 10-5-20 This week in 5B we talked about how we can be more like Jesus. Students shared how they will walk in His footsteps and follow Him. It was really nice to hear what 5B had to say. After discussing ways we can be more like Jesus, each student wrote it down and these are displayed on our new bulletin board outside our room. We each created a monster in writing. Once we created our monsters, we wrote a descriptive paper about what they look like. Our monsters got "lost" and we want them found. The only way they will be found is from the description we wrote about them. Students enjoyed this writing assignment. They are hanging up in our classroom on display. |
